How to change your ringtone
| 1 Comment | by
Tired of default built in ringtones that make people stare? Those tones do not take advantage of your fancy new phone. We all like a change, especially when it involves expressing ourselves musically; this allows us to stand out from the crowd. Plus it can draw attention from other fans of the same genre of music; it may even start a conversation with others within earshot.
So you’re probably asking yourself, “How do I change my ringtone?” well this is commonly asked, especially with the older generation that isn’t as up-to-date with technology when compared to teenagers and children. In the past it was a simple process and thankfully that hasn’t changed much as time has went on, just accessing the menu for custom ringtones is different.
Remember the days you had to manually type in music codes for Nokia phones? That isn’t the case anymore, you can buy music from the App Store and Android Store if you happen to use Apple and Android based cell phones. For the rest of us, we simply exchange music via Bluetooth or upload the music to the phone directly. All you need is a standard USB cable that normally comes with the phone when you buy it, the driver CD to install the software on a computer. Last but not least, the music you want to use!
Install the software onto your computer, connect your phone to the computer using the USB cable and wait until the two sync. Then you can simply drag and drop music files into the phones memory, if it has a memory card you will be able to store much more than usual. Now the hard part is over!
For this tutorial we’ll use Blackberry as an example, this is the universal standard to changing your ringtone. It will vary between phones but this method is commonly used.
On the Home screen, click the Sound and Alert Profiles icon.
Click Change Sounds and Alerts > Sounds for Selected Profile.
• To change your ring tone, click Phone.
• To change notifiers or reminders, click to expand a section. Click an option.
In the Ring Tone, Notifier Tone, or Reminder Tone field, do one of the following:
• Click a tone.
• To use a song that is on your BlackBerry® device or on a media card, click All Music. Find and click a song.
• To use a voice note that you recorded, click All Voice Notes. Find and click a voice note.
• To use a preloaded alert, click All Alerts. Find and click an alert.
Generally you’ll need to go through the profile menu on your phone and then access the sound option which will host the ringtone tab, simply pick your song and set it as your tone. Huzzah! You’re done.
Apple iPod Shuffle 2GB & 4GB

Available in 5 vibrant colours with an option of 2GB or 4GB, Apple introduces the world’s smallest music player. The controls have been moved onto the earphone cord, so no need to go hunting in your pockets for the player. The iPod Shuffle introduces us to a new feature, VoiceOver. With a press of a button the player can tell you the artist and song title of the track you are currently listening to. It also warns you when the battery is low! VoiceOver can communicate in 20 different languages. As you would expect the iPod Shuffle offers the ability to have multiple playlists and the 4GB version has enough room to fit in 1,000 tracks. The shuffle switch has three positions. Flip it to the left, and you’ll hear your music in a random order, flip it to the middle, and your songs play in order or flip to the right to turn iPod Shuffle off.
